Right in the city, yet it feels miles away.
At the Blaarmeersen shore, you step in and push off. Before you lies a wide, calm lake with no boat traffic or currents. Still water, and more than enough space to simply drift. Ideal if you're trying SUP or kayaking for the first time, but just as good if you simply want to unwind.
You paddle along the green banks of the domain, with views of the beach where people are sunbathing and children are playing in the water. The Karel Sabbeberg stands out on the horizon - a hill known to Ghent's athletes as a challenge, but which simply looks beautiful from the water. Along the way, you'll pass quiet nooks, small islands, and stretches of bank where you can stop for a moment and enjoy the tranquility.
On the way back, you'll paddle past the waterfront, where the terrace overlooks the lake. Your starting point comes back into view. And hopefully, your mind will feel a lot clearer than when you set off.

During summer, De Blaarmeersen is free for Ghent residents, but non-residents are advised to book a day ticket in advance. Combine your visit with a dip in the lake – the beach is just a two-minute walk from your starting point.
