Fancy a short trip full of variety? This loop combines the green edge of the city with the typical Ghent flair, ideal for an exploratory session after work or a cosy Sunday out on the water.
You board on the Franse Vaart, a quiet starting point just outside the hustle and bustle. The Keizerpark soon surrounds you with a view of trees, children playing and the striking Keizerpark bicycle bridge. Just before you sail under that bridge, you turn towards a calmer side arm that takes you along the edge of Queen Astrid Park and the Fisheries.
The trip continues along the Coyendans Park, an elongated green ribbon that offers a surprising amount of peace in the middle of the city. Not much later, you'll sail into the Portus Ganda, where the city feels a bit livelier again and you can glimpse the historic quays. On the Saint George Bridge, you are making the turning point: time to take in the atmosphere in the opposite direction again. When returning, you consciously choose the right side of the park at the fork for a subtle variation.
After your trip, linger in the Keizerpark, it's an ideal place to picnic, rest or just relax on the grass.
