Fancy a slightly longer SUP trip on flat water, with spots to dock and a pinch of history along the way? This route along the Yser leaves from the Spaarbekken in Nieuwpoort and takes you to the Monument to the 7th Line Regiment.
You'll start from our location at Kompas Camping on the Spaarbekken in Nieuwpoort, a quiet and accessible lake where you immediately feel like a vacation. You'll pass Kompas Camping, De Ark and Koco Loco; all great places to have a drink or eat before or after your trip. From there, you sail up the Yser, where the water usually stays calm and you are surrounded by the open landscape that characterizes the Westhoek.
Along the way, you can take a break at restaurant d'Uniebrugghe, near the waterfront. Then you'll sail on to the 7th Line Regiment Monument, a serene spot that recalls the region's fierce war history. At the jetty, you make your turning point and paddle back to the Spaarbekken via the same gentle route.
Do you prefer SUP without a lot of hustle and bustle? Plan your trip in the morning and enjoy the water of the IJzer in peace and quiet.
