Looking for a longer but accessible trip through the greenery on the outskirts of the city? This 9 km long route across the Leuven-Dyle Canal offers peace, nature, a few surprising places to stop and a touch of Leuven's beer history.
You get on at the pontoon near Marie Thumas, where the canal takes you straight to the edge of the city. Under the Schuiteniers Bridge, the view changes: the city fades, and the greenery takes over. You'll glide past the Bellefroid Ponds and't Fort Park, a surprisingly quiet spot that automatically slows the pace.
On the Dijlemeander, you can see dogs playing in the free-range zone, an ideal time for a short break, especially if you are paddling with your dog yourself. Then you paddle further towards the Wijgmaal Bridge. This is where restaurant De Brug is located on the waterfront, a great stopover for those who are in the mood for something warm or refreshing.
On the way back, you follow the same route, but you see the landscape from a different perspective. Before you put your SUP back in the locker, you can continue sailing past the impressive Stella Artois Brewery, a last look at a Leuven classic.
Extend your day with a visit to the Stella Artois brewery, a fun way to end a trip full of character.
